Internet Policy


INTERNET POLICY


The purpose of public access to the Internet is to provide a tool or information resource to be used to fulfill the Keck Memorial Library's mission to promote intellectual freedom, lifelong learning, and the enhancement of cultural and leisure activities.

It is the users responsibility to evaluate the quality of the information accessed.  The Library cannot accept responsibility for the accuracy of its content.

The availability of the information does not constitute endorsement of the content by the Keck Memorial Library.

Parents are strongly advised to monitor their children's Internet use.  The Library does not act in place or in absence of the parent and is not responsible for enforcing any restrictions which a parent or guardian may place on a minor's use of the Internet.

The Library reserves the right to place time constraints on Internet use.

Iowa law makes it illegal to download or purvey child pornography, purvey pornography to children, or to commit fraudulent acts using the Internet.

Downloading of information from the Internet can only be saved to patron removable drives.

The Keck Memorial Library complies fully with the United States copyright law.

The Keck Memorial Library cannot guarantee confidentially over the Internet.

The Library will not provide e-mail accounts to its users.

Access to any area of the Internet that charges a fee for usage is not allowed.

Unauthorized Costs - If a user gains access to any service via the Internet which has a cost involved or if a user incurs other types of costs, the user accessing such a service will be responsible for those costs.

Anyone who tampers with switch settings, move, reconfigure, or do anything that could damage workstations or service components will be asked to leave.
